easyMarkets Q1 2025 Recap: Familiar Strengths and Unexpected Opportunities

As we reflect on Q1 2025, it’s clear that global market shifts have shaped trading behaviors in distinct ways. While our clients’ preferences remained steady with familiar assets like Gold, Nasdaq, and EURUSD .
This marks the third consecutive quarter that these assets have led the way, a testament to their strong appeal during uncertain times. Gold, in particular, closed in on the $3,000 mark by the end of the quarter, reaffirming its status as a trusted safe haven amidst market volatility.
Crypto had a strong finish to 2024, but as Q1 unfolded, expectations fell short. Traders had hoped for favourable regulatory changes following the inauguration of the Trump administration, but those hopes weren’t realized. As a result, crypto trading volumes dropped significantly, as traders pivoted to more stable opportunities.
Key market shifts
- European indices shine: While the crypto market cooled, European indices unexpectedly surged into the spotlight. The surge came as countries across Europe increased their spending on defence and the military, largely because of rising global tensions. Investors were quick to react, shifting their focus to these now-active markets. What used to be a quiet area of investing turned into a hot spot almost overnight.
- Asia Pacific's growing influence: Meanwhile, a quieter but equally important development was happening in the Asia Pacific region. Here, we saw a noticeable increase in trading volumes. Traders in this region weren’t just following trends; they were shaping them. Their active participation in both traditional assets and global indices highlighted the region’s growing importance in the broader trading landscape, making it one of the key areas of momentum heading into Q2.
Platform enhancements and evolving risk profiles
In Q1, easyMarkets upgraded its web and mobile platform which significantly boosted client trading experiences and marked an increase in platform usage.
Interestingly, we saw a slight decline in the use of Guaranteed Stop Loss* orders, suggesting that traders are becoming more confident in their ability to manage risk independently, perhaps in response to the enhanced tools now available on our platform.
‘Our clients’ shift from crypto to European indices highlights how quickly they are adapting to macroeconomic developments.” said Nikos Antoniades, CEO of easyMarkets. “At easyMarkets, we are committed to providing the tools and stability traders need to stay agile in a fast-moving market.’
Looking ahead: Volatility, opportunity, and strategic agility
As we move into Q2, the global landscape remains complex and ever evolving. Developments in U.S. politics, European fiscal policies, and ongoing geopolitical tensions will likely continue to influence market sentiment.
At easyMarkets, we don’t see these changes as obstacles, but as opportunities. Equipped with the right tools and insights, our clients are well positioned to make informed, confident trading decisions, no matter how the market evolves.
